With today’s changeable weather, do you choose a movie tonight, but you still have no idea which one? Prime Video today has the streaming premiere of The Covenant (2023), Guy Ritchie’s new movie (Snatch. (2000), The Gentlemen (2019), Aladdin (2019)). The undisputed eye-catcher in the military thriller is protagonist Jake Gyllenhaal (Jarhead).
Gyllenhaal plays Sergeant John Kinley, a US soldier on a final deployment to Afghanistan. After an ambush, Kinley and his interpreter Ahmed must trek for miles through rugged terrain to get themselves to safety. Kinley hopes to return to his home country after all the hardship, but for Ahmed the conditions prove a lot more difficult…
For the well-known Guy Ritchie (whose previous (action) film can also be seen on Prime Video) it is the first time that he has ventured into a war film. The director is currently working on a WWII thriller with retiring Witcher star Henry Cavill The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
The Covenant is so far well received. For example, the film scores above 80 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and the (verified) audience score is even at 98.
