Sumar’s spokesman, Ernest Urtasun, has refused to compare the results of the candidacy led by the acting second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, with those obtained in 2019 by Unidas Podemos, as the leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has critically stated. Also, he has explained that without the preparation of this unity coalition the alternative left to the PSOE would not move at those levels of representation, with 31 deputies, at the same time that he has avoided confronting Belarra, whom he has thanked for working “side by side” during the campaign. This has been transferred in statements to Onda Cero, collected by Europa press, after the acting Minister of Social Rights called Sumar’s electoral result insufficient, which left 700,000 votes in relation to the worst result of United We Can. He even criticized that the strategy of “renouncing feminism”, alluding to the exclusion of Irene Montero from the lists, and “making Podemos invisible” in the end “has not worked electorally. Faced with this vision, Urtasun has recounted that he does not like to make that comparison with 2019 given that Sumar is the first time he has run for general elections and has obtained 31 deputies, a “very meritorious” balance. we would not have invented Sumar our political space would not be at the levels that we achieved yesterday, which I think is a real success. Therefore, from that point of view, I think it has been very positive”, he emphasized. And also in relation to the electoral campaign, he stressed that there was a collaborative spirit among all the forces integrated in the confluence, since all “have rowed in the same direction”. Furthermore, he has concluded that without working “side by side” with Belarra herself, the federal coordinator of IU, Alberto Garzón, or the former mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau, the leader of Más País, Íñigo Erre Jón, and the regional spokesperson for Más Madrid, Mónica García, would not have reached that level of seats. THE CATALANS WANT A GOVERNMENT OF PROGRESO Regarding the option for forces such as ERC and Junts to support the repetition of the coalition government, Urtasun has highlighted that the forces called upon to be in that Executive have achieved 26 seats, with growth for the PSOE while Sumar has maintained its seven seats. Therefore, the Catalans have ” revalidated” confidence in this coalition government and now all negotiations with possible parliamentary partners. And he has no doubt that the two pro-independence formations are going to do it and, furthermore, in “good faith” because he does not believe that anyone in Catalonia is in favor of giving the PP and Vox a “second chance”, which would be “crazy” given that in the case of the extreme right it has already made clear its plan to “set fire” to the spirits in the community. Consequently, the leader of Sumar is convinced that everything “will be fine” and that, in addition, the leader of En Comú Podem Jaume Asens is going to help in the case of Junts, as he has been commissioned in the case of the formation of Díaz. Likewise, he has defended the “successful recipe” to de-escalate the Catalan conflict, which is dialogue and the search for political solutions, which has resulted in a “certain institutional normality” between the Generalitat and the state Executive. THE DIALOGUE TABLE WILL PROVIDE POLITICAL SOLUTIONS To achieve this consensus, Urtasun encourages them to continue working to support the majority of progress and the dialogue table, which is “what works” and where solutions must come to correct the “anomaly” that Catalonia is the only community with a Statute voted for by its citizens and then “cut” by the Constitution. “This is something that no other autonomous community has in Spain and therefore we need to correct that to give it new legitimacy, a new territorial pact. I believe that the future government has to face this with the utmost ambition and in that I believe that we can find positive and fruitful terms of dialogue and negotiation with the Catalan forces”, he concluded.
