The film hits Barbie and Oppenheimer, together also referred to online as ‘Barbenheimer’, generated a record number of visitors to the Pathé cinema chain last weekend.
In total, just under 200,000 people came to one of the thirty theaters on Saturday and Sunday, a spokesperson announced on Monday.
Most visitors went to see the Barbie movie, followed by Oppenheimer. For both it was the first weekend that the films were shown.
Previously released films such as Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One, Elemental and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny also did well. Pathé does not give exact figures.
So far, the weekend of 28 and 29 December 2019 has been the best weekend for Pathé. Then Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker just hit theaters.
Pathé cleverly capitalized on the hype surrounding Barbie and Oppenheimer. In many cinemas, the films were deliberately programmed one after the other so that visitors could see them one after the other.
