Moscow, Jul 21 (EFE).- The Russian and Chinese naval forces destroyed a model of a drifting mine during the joint Russian-Chinese naval exercises “North/Interaction-2023” that are being carried out in the waters of the Sea of Japan, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported today.
In addition, according to the military report, the troops from the two countries repelled a simulated air attack on a small target and carried out telecommunications exercises.
The Russian squadron, made up of the submarine chasers “Admiral Tributs” and “Admiral Panteléyev”, and the corvettes “Gremiaschii” and “Gueroi Rossiiskoi Federatsii Aldar Tsidenzhapov”, carried out firing practice against a surface target with artillery pieces.
The Russian ships are commanded by Rear Admiral Valeri Kazakov, commander of the Primorye flotilla, which is part of the Pacific Fleet.
In the exercises, which will last until next Sunday, four warships and a support ship from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy are participating on the Chinese side.
“The main objective of these exercises is to strengthen naval cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, as well as support stability and peace in the Asia-Pacific region,” Russia declared when announcing its start. EFE
