More than ninety works of art from the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be on display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam next fall. The Rotterdam museum is expected to remain closed until 2029 due to renovation.
The world-famous works The Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel, La petite danseuse de quatorze ans by Edgar Degas and the newly restored Infinity Mirror Room – Phalli’s Field (Floor Show) by Yayoi Kusama, among others, are exhibited in the Philips Wing. Work by Cindy Sherman, Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso can also be admired in the Rijksmuseum.
Although Boijmans Van Beuningen has been closed for four years, a depot was opened in 2021. Part of the collection can be seen here.
Last summer, the museum made its largest purchase ever. Outgoing Secretary of State Gunay Uslu (Culture and Media) unveiled the painting Peinture-poème (Musique, Seine, Michel, Bataille et moi) by the Spanish artist Joan Miró in the depot. It was purchased for more than 8 million euros.
The exhibition Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum can be seen from 29 September 2023 to 14 January 2024.
