Five young Germans, arrested for a group rape in a hotel in Palma

The National Police have arrested 5 young German tourists for the alleged group rape of a young woman of the same nationality in a hotel room in Playa de Palma.

The arrest of these boys in their 20s took place around 3:40 am this Thursday in this usual tourist destination in Majorca for the German population, the Police reported this Friday.

The five tourists are accused of a crime of sexual assault and will probably go to court this Saturday. The facts are being investigated by the Family and Women’s Care Units (UFAM) of the National Police, which indicates that for now it cannot offer more information on this alleged attack that is under investigation.

This year there has been an increase in violence against women in all senses. During 2023, in Spain not only have complaints increased by 10.9% in the first quarter of this year, registering 46,327, but also the number of women victims to reach 45,154, 11.5% more if compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the latest data from the General Council of the Judiciary.

The election year and the rise of the extreme right have put on the table for debate how to define the violence suffered by women by men. One of the battles that the extreme right fights insistently is to deny the term “macho violence” to call it “domestic violence” or “intrafamily violence”, a not trivial issue and with profound consequences in Spanish society.
