Former Atlético Nacional goalkeeper René Higuita, recognized for his outstanding sports career, is currently in an awkward situation with the Sociedad de Activos Especiales (SAE) due to an acquisition made in the 1990s. Although Higuita was cleared of several problems legal at that time, the National Legal Defense Agency of the State has now requested to review a guardianship before the Constitutional Court to examine the situation of a piece of land that the former goalkeeper acquired in 1992.

The journalist Margarita Ortega, in a segment of NotiCentro 1 CM& of Canal Uno, reported that the SAE presented this guardianship questioning the decision of a judge that granted René Higuita ownership of the land in question, located in the El Poblado neighborhood of Medellín, with an area of 1,253 square meters and valued at 1,200 million pesos.
The 18th civil court of the Medellín circuit, in 2016, ruled that René Higuita and his wife Magnolia Echeverri were the legitimate owners of said land. However, the Sociedad de Activos Especiales has questioned this decision, arguing that the land was subject to precautionary measures in a domain forfeiture process and that the competent judge should have ruled on it.

The disputed land is currently in ruins and has been the subject of litigation for the past 30 years. René Higuita has affirmed that he acquired the property in good faith in 1992 and that only six years after inhabiting it, he was notified that it was subject to an asset forfeiture process that has not yet concluded.

It is important to note that, according to the Attorney General’s Office, this land belonged to William Moncada Cuartas, who was a member of the Medellín cartel and became the main partner of the organization after the delivery of Pablo Escobar. Moncada Cuartas, in charge of the economic part of the organization, was kidnapped and assassinated in 1993 due to disagreements with the leader of the cartel.
The guardianship request filed by the Special Assets Society seeks to carefully examine the judge’s decision and determine whether the acquisition of the land by René Higuita was legitimate, considering the domain forfeiture process to which he was subject. Meanwhile, the legal situation of the land remains unresolved, leaving the Atlético Nacional goalkeeper coach in a rather uncomfortable situation regarding this property.
Pamela Higuita, daughter of René Higuita, posted a video where the 89 Copa Libertadores champion can be seen stroking a chicken while sitting in what appears to be his living room.

The video quickly went viral and the reactions to it did not wait. Many purslane fans took the clip with humor, while followers of the ambassador squad spoke up and left messages that were a little “angry” referring to the fact that the goalkeeper was quite “confident” regarding what the result will be in the grand final.
The former goalkeeper of the Colombian National Team, Rene Higuita, invited not to misrepresent the video in which he appears stroking a rooster.
Through his Twitter account, René Higuita spoke about the controversy where he blamed the media for taking the short nine-second video out of context and invited them to experience the Colombian soccer final in peace and avoid any kind of of tragedy with the party as an excuse:
“I want to clarify that the video that the media are irresponsibly sharing where I find myself caressing a farm animal is out of context and was recorded several months ago, at this time the least we should do is generate violence among the fans.”
