At least six people have been killed in a fire at a care home in Milan. More than eighty people were injured. This is reported by Italian news agencies.
The fire broke out around 1:20 am last night in a rest home for 210 people in the south of Milan. Nothing is yet known about the cause. Of the more than eighty people admitted to hospital, sixteen are seriously injured. Two of them are in mortal danger.
Many victims suffer from smoke poisoning. The injured have been taken to various hospitals in the Milan region.
The fire department is still extinguishing the fire. The care residence is located in a three-storey building from 1920. It has been used as a care home since 1955.
