Large fire on Rotterdam-West industrial estate, NL-Alert due to smoke

A large fire broke out this morning in a creative workshop with wood storage on Keileweg in Rotterdam-West. Little remains of the building. There are no injuries.

Due to the large amount of smoke, an NL-Alert has been sent to local residents, calling on them to stay out of the smoke. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and to turn off ventilation.

Surrounding buildings, including a hardware store and a home furnishing store, are kept wet to prevent them from catching fire as well. Firefighters from Rotterdam, Vlaardingen and Schiedam were deployed to extinguish the fire.

The roads around Marconiplein and Havenstraat are closed. Traffic will be diverted via Amsterdamseweg and Hudsonstraat.

The creative workshop De Keilewerf has studios and workshops for designers, furniture makers and artists, among others.
