Jose Mourinho has to miss more AS Roma matches. The Italian Football Association imposed a two-match suspension on Wednesday for insulting referee Daniele Chiffi at the beginning of last month.
Mourinho called Chiffi after the match against Monza (1-1) the worst referee he had encountered in his entire career. “He’s awful, he doesn’t make any human connection and he has no empathy,” said 60-year-old Mourinho.
Due to the suspension, Mourinho will miss the first two league games. He also has to skip the first matches in a European context. The flamboyant Portuguese received a four-match suspension from UEFA last week for his behavior around the Europa League final.
Mourinho insulted referee Anthony Taylor in the lost Europa League final against Sevilla when he ran into him in the parking lot at the stadium in Budapest. Roma lost the 1-1 final on penalties.
Next season, AS Roma will start the European season in the group stage of the Europa League. The new season in Serie A starts on the weekend of August 19 and 20.
