In week 20 of the United States – MLS 2023 tournament, Austin FC demonstrated their superiority against Dynamo and defeated them 3-0 at Q2 Stadium. The goals for the local were scored by Ethan Finlay (22′ 1T), Gyasi Zardes (32′ 1T) and Julio Cascante (4′ 2T).
A great play by Austin FC, 22 minutes into the first half, was the one that moved the score thanks to Ethan Finlay. The midfielder took advantage of a ball that came from the left and hit a header in the big area to convert over the goalkeeper’s right post.
The best player of the match was Julio Cascante. The Austin FC defender had a good level scoring 1 goal and clearing 3 dangerous balls.
Gyasi Zardes also stood out in the Q2 Stadium. The Austin FC attacker scored 1 goal and shot at the opposite goal 4 times.
The match was cut short due to the number of fouls committed by both teams. There were a large number of cautions: Erik Sviatchenko, Jon Gallagher, Owen Wolff, Artur, Daniel Pereira, Nick Lima, Héctor Herrera and Julio Cascante.
Austin FC manager Josh Wolff proposed a 4-4-2 formation with Brad Stuver in goal; Nick Lima, Julio Cascante, Aleksandar Radovanovic and Jon Gallagher on the defensive line; Ethan Finlay, Owen Wolff, Daniel Pereira and Diego Fagúndez in the middle; and Gyasi Zardes and Sebastián Driussi in attack.
For its part, Benjamin Olsen’s team took to the field with a 4-5-1 scheme with Steven Clark under the three sticks; Franco Escobar, Erik Sviatchenko, Micael and Daniel Steres in defense; Artur, Héctor Herrera, Corey Baird, Amine Bassi and Nelson Quiñones in midfield; and Aliyu Ibrahim up front.
Referee Víctor Rivas was in charge of supervising the game at the Q2 Stadium.
On the following date, Austin FC will face Inter Miami as a visitor, while Dynamo will play as a visitor against Seattle Sounders.
