Debris has been found in the search for the missing submarine Titan. This is reported by the US Coast Guard on Twitter. The debris was found on the seabed near the Titanic wreck.
The debris is the first concrete find in the search for the submarine. Coast Guard experts analyze the new information and hold a press conference later in the evening. That meeting starts at 9 p.m. Dutch time.
The vessel, in which four tourists and the driver were on their way to the Titanic wreck, has been missing since Monday. Since then a major search has been launched.
The search was a real race against time from the start, because the people on board only had a limited amount of oxygen on board. According to calculations, that oxygen would have run out today.
Although debris has now been found, the search continues for the time being. The number of ships and underwater robots that participate in this is still increasing.
