Almost all the glass plates of the KWF Cancer Control memorial were destroyed in the night from Sunday to Monday. The memorial plaques bore the names of deceased cancer patients.
The panels were in the Koningin Wilhelminabos in Dronten. That forest was donated to KWF in 1999 in honor of the fund’s fiftieth anniversary. After almost 25 years, some 25,000 memorial trees have been planted in the forest by relatives of cancer victims.
In addition to the memorial trees, the forest also has a Memorial Site. There are glass panels with names of loved ones who have died of cancer. KWF calls every name “a small monument”. Almost all those glass plates were destroyed in the night from Sunday to Monday.
KWF says in a response that it is “extremely shocked” and to report the destruction. No one has been arrested yet. The police are calling on people to report if they saw or heard anything in the vicinity of the Koningin Wilhelminabos on Sunday.
