Norway suffered a painful defeat in the qualifying series for the European Championship of 2024 on Saturday despite a goal from Erling Haaland. Two late goals against Scotland lost 1-2.
Haaland made it 1-0 after an hour at Ullevall Stadium in Oslo. He was allowed to moor for a penalty and shot flawlessly into the corner. With that he seemed to give his team the victory.
Nothing could be further from the truth, because the Scots struck twice just before the end. Lyndon Dykes scored the equalizer, after which Kenny McLean completely turned the game upside down.
The 22-year-old Haaland, who scored his 22nd goal in his 24th international match, has had a dream season with Manchester City. Partly thanks to his many goals, the ‘treble’ was caught. Against Scotland he was substituted on in the 84th minute.
Due to the loss, Norway is far away from qualifying for the European Championship, which has one point after three matches. Scotland is still clear after three games. Number two Spain, which has played two matches, follows with three points.
Later on Saturday, Belgium-Austria and Portugal-Bosnia and Herzegovina are also on the program in the European Championship qualification.
