Attacker Arnaut Danjuma returns to Villarreal after his loan to Tottenham Hotspur. The club from London had the option to take over the attacker for 30 million euros, but will not use it. Striker Sam Lammers transfers from Atalanta to Rangers FC.
Defender Clément Lenglet will also not be permanently added to the selection, the club from London announced on Thursday. The Frenchman returns to FC Barcelona.
Due to competition from Harry Kane, Richarlison and Son Heung-min, among others, the 25-year-old Danjuma played just 162 minutes of league football in North London. In twelve official games for Spurs, the former NEC player scored twice.
At Villarreal, Danjuma was one of the stars in the 2021/2022 season. Partly due to six goals from the attacker in the Champions League, the club reached the semi-finals of the billion dollar ball. In it, Villarreal was eliminated by Liverpool. At the start of this season he lost his base place, which meant that a loan came up.
The six-time Orange international has a contract with Villarreal until mid-2026, but it is not yet known whether he will also play for ‘The Yellow Submarine’ next season. Last winter break, Ajax and PSV would also have considered hiring the Dutchman.
Lammers with Rangers to fifth foreign club
Wherever Danjuma leaves the United Kingdom, Lammers comes. The born Tilburger would make the switch from Atalanta to the Rangers for 3.5 million euros and is now fixed until mid-2027.
Lammers has been under contract with the club of Marten de Roon and Teun Koopmeiners since 2020, but was never able to grow into a permanent fixture. Atalanta successively rented him to Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli and Sampdoria. With the latter club, Lammers was relegated from Serie A this season.
At Rangers, Lammers becomes the eleventh Dutch player after Frank and Ronald de Boer, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Mols, among others. Seventeen years ago, Fernando Ricksen and Ronald Waterreus were the last Dutchmen employed by the tradition club.
Rangers finished second in the league last season, behind arch rivals Celtic. During the past season, the club fired trainer Van Bronckhorst, who reached the Europa League final in 2022. The current trainer is the Englishman Michael Beale.
