Former skater Barbara de Loor will be the new face of the Netherlands in Movement. She succeeds Olga Commandeur, who said goodbye to the popular morning program of Omroep MAX last month after 23 years.
The 49-year-old De Loor, who became world champion in the 1,000 meters in 2005, will make her debut on September 4. She does this alongside Duco Bauwens, who has been involved with Nederland in Beweging since 2007.
The former top athlete is “really looking forward to it”, she says. “Presenting The Netherlands in Motion fits in perfectly with the work I’ve been doing since I stopped skating: getting people moving, young and old.”
De Loor and Bauwens are already busy coming up with exercises. “Then I realize what is involved. In that fifteen minutes you want to do it as well as possible: the exercises must be possible for everyone – both standing and sometimes using a chair – and you want to give attention to all muscle groups I expect the viewer to enjoy it as much as I do now.”
MAX broadcaster Jan Slagter is “very happy” with the arrival of De Loor. “It is important for young and old to keep moving, and with the arrival of Barbara I am sure that the Netherlands will get off the couch to do the exercises.”
