Santander, Jun 7 (EFECOM).- Sidenor’s management has promised to maintain at least the current staff of the Reinosa factory until 2025 in a document signed by the company and the committee and which will serve as the basis for working on the future of the plant
The agreement was signed last night after a meeting that lasted for several hours, according to a statement released by CCOO, the majority in the works council.
Both parties will address the future of the Reinosa factory through a negotiating committee that will hold its first meeting on June 22.
In principle, the meetings will be semi-annual or will be called “when one of the parties requires it if any supervening circumstance occurs.”
The industrial plan and investments for the period up to 2025 will be addressed first, according to the committee, which explains that the investment projects presented to the administration are part of the signed commitment and adds that joint working groups will continue with the regional government.
With regard to employment, in addition to maintaining at least the current workforce, the company’s organizational structure will be strengthened and a plan for the professional development of workers will be implemented, indicated the president of the committee, Sergio Fernández.
Sidenor workers began demonstrations in April for the closure of the rolling mill at the factory, which was to last six months, but management decided to extend it indefinitely.
Sidenor, which has 122 workers at the Reinosa factory, justified the closure of the rolling mill, last October, on the increase in the cost of energy, and the committee attributed the extension of the closure to a relocation strategy.EFECOM
