Manchester City won the FA Cup on Saturday at the expense of Manchester United. ‘The Citizens’ were 2-1 too strong for the team of trainer Erik ten Hag in the final at Wembley and thus remain on course for the treble.
Ilkay Gundogan was the celebrated man at City with two goals. After twelve seconds he already made it 1-0 for the national champion, who was much stronger. Still, United came back to 1-1. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty in the 33rd minute.
Gundogan scored his second goal in the 51st minute (2-1). Just like with the 1-0, he hit from a distance and that turned out to be enough for the win.
It is the seventh time that City can call themselves winners of the FA Cup. This season it is the second prize for coach Pep Guardiola’s team, after securing the national title last month. In a week, City can become the second English club to ever win the treble, but then Internazionale must still be dealt with in the Champions League final in Istanbul. United (1999) is now the only English club with a treble.
For United, it will remain with one prize this season and that is the League Cup, which was already won in February. Because ‘The Red Devils’ also qualified for the main tournament of the Champions League via the competition, Ten Hag can look back on a reasonable debut season at Old Trafford.

Hit Gündogan fastest ever in FA Cup final
The 142nd edition of the final of the oldest cup tournament in the world started on Saturday without the Dutch. Tyrell Malacia and Wout Weghorst sat on the bench at Manchester United, while Nathan Aké was not allowed to start at City.
It was Aké who quickly cheered, because he saw teammate Gündogan make the 1-0 after twelve seconds. The German scored brilliantly from a distance and scored the fastest goal ever in an FA Cup final. The record was held by Everton striker Louis Saha, who scored after 25 seconds against Chelsea in 2009.
After the 1-0 it seemed a matter of time before the 2-0 would fall. City were stronger, but Erling Haaland missed two opportunities. Against the ratio, it was hit after 33 minutes on the other side. City midfielder Jack Grealish got the ball unluckily against his hand and after interference from the VAR the ball went on the penalty spot. United captain Bruno Fernandes shot the 1-1 on the scoreboard in a controlled manner.
1-1 was also the halftime score, although City screamed in vain for a penalty kick in the fortieth minute. Fred crossed Kevin De Bruyne’s foot, so that the Belgian did not get a shot.

Gundogan’s third goal disallowed
City was also stronger after the break and in the 51st minute that was also reflected in the score. Again Gundogan scored and again he did it from outside the penalty area. The declarant was De Bruyne, with a free kick from the side.
That was the game of Göndagan, who thought he had made a hat-trick for a moment. But the captain’s 3-1 in the 72nd minute was ruled out for offside.
Then there was finally some pressure from United and there were also opportunities. A shot from substitute Alejandro Garnacho flew wide. Hoping for more, Ten Hag also brought Weghorst in as a substitute, but the Orange international was unable to make the difference.
There was another scrimmage in front of City’s goal in extra time, but a goal was not forthcoming. The FA Cup also went to City, with Aké filling in in the final phase. Next week, Guardiola’s team can crown the season by also winning the Champions League in Istanbul.
