In Brussels, a man died last night after he got stuck in a roller shutter at the Rogier metro station in Brussels. It is already the fourth time in three months that someone gets stuck in a roller shutter at a Brussels metro station.
The man got stuck with the upper part of his torso. After he was freed by the emergency services, an attempt was made to resuscitate him. That was to no avail. The man died on the spot.
According to the Brussels metro manager, the man got stuck because he tried to enter the metro station before the mechanical shutter opened. He got stuck when the roller shutter went up.
Multiple incidents involving roller shutters
Tonight was the first time someone died from being stuck in a roller shutter at a subway station. But Brussels has already seen similar incidents in recent months.
Last week, a man got his leg stuck when he tried to enter the Porte de Hal metro station in Brussels. On May 23, someone got trapped in a roller shutter at Sint-Gillisvoorplein metro station in Brussels. In March, a man was trapped in a roller shutter of the Brussels metro station Naamsepoort.
According to the metro operator, it is unclear why people try to enter the stations just before the shutters open.
