The casinos of the Asian gambling paradise Macau are running as usual again. Turnover increased by no less than 366 percent to 1.93 billion dollars (1.8 billion euros) in May. That is the highest level since the start of the corona crisis in January 2020.
Monthly revenues rose extra sharply due to a five-day national holiday. On that day, hundreds of thousands of visitors flocked to Macau. The Special Administrative Region is the only place in China where citizens can legally gamble in casinos.
China lifted strict corona measures in January, allowing visitors to gamble in Macau for the first time in more than three years. The casinos had a hard time during the corona crisis. Turnover fell sharply due to forced closures.
