Sergio Unac, Governor of San Juan
After the Attorney General of the Nation ruled in the last hours that his new candidacy for governor is unconstitutional, the current president of San Juan, Sergio Uñac, once again criticized the Supreme Court of Justice and asked that his situation be clarified quickly “Out of respect for its citizens.”
It was through a statement released on social networks where the man from San Juan questioned the decision made by Eduardo Casal, which he accused of joining a “shameful comedy of tangles” and having the purpose of “preventing a candidate from being elected democratically.” .
“The same Supreme Court that partially suspended the elections in San Juan 48 hours after the beginning of the electoral ban, now takes weeks to issue a ruling on the underlying issue,” begins the document shared by Uñac, in which he recalled the cancellation of elections in the province three weeks ago.

His defense continues: “The same Attorney General of the Nation that a little over a month ago had underlined the non-competence of that Supreme Court of the Nation to define my candidacy, now surprisingly and untimely opines against my nomination, arguing unconstitutionality” .
Although he remarked that he will respect the institutions of the Judiciary and abide by what the Justice provides, the governor maintained that the determination -which leaves unresolved whether or not he can be a candidate in the next elections- violates his Provincial Constitution and violates all principles basic of federalism.
“The least important thing in this whole situation is a citizen and his candidacy. What is truly transcendental is that they do not continue to complicate the lives of all San Juan residents,” said Uñac.
Sergio Uñac criticized the Court again
And he stressed: “That is why we decided not to join this shameful comedy of entanglements where decisions are made that disrespect San Juan, its people and the possibility of being able to elect their representatives democratically, constitutionally and autonomously.”
Along these lines, he requested that “out of respect for the people of San Juan” the Supreme Court of Justice issue a quick ruling and clarify the situation.
“They can prevent a candidate from being elected democratically, but they will not be able to destroy a political project chosen and ratified by the people of San Juan on May 14,” the governor concluded in his statement.
Sergio Uñac’s candidacy in San Juan was again in a position to be resolved after the Attorney General of the Nation, Eduardo Casal, issued an opinion before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in which he declared his candidacy for the elections unconstitutional .
According to the head of the prosecutors, the man from San Juan is up for a third re-election when the Constitution establishes that there can only be two.
In article 175 of the same, it is detailed that “the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor last four years in the exercise of their functions and can be consecutively re-elected up to two times.” Uñac was lieutenant governor of the province from 2011 to 2015 and governor in the periods 2015-2019 and the current one from 2019-2023.
In this regard, the man from San Juan defended his candidacy before the judicial authorities and argued that the Constitution of the province should be interpreted as different categories than governor and vice and not as unique, so this year would be his second re-election.
