Hunting wild animals in the Veluwe can continue despite the arrival of the wolf. This was determined by the Central Netherlands court on Tuesday.
The Fauna Protection is afraid that hunting fallow deer, red deer, wild boar and roe deer will lead to a disturbance of the wolf. That is why the organization filed a lawsuit against the hunting permit.
The wolf has established itself in the Veluwe in recent years with several packs. The wolf is a protected species in Europe.
But hunting wild ungulates in the Veluwe does not have to be stopped because of the arrival of the wolf. According to the court, it is not clear whether the wolves are indeed disturbed by the hunt.
The court bases its view on a report from the University of Groningen. According to the scientists, the developments must first be further investigated. The court also ruled that the report does not show that the possible disturbance affects the chances of survival, reproduction or the habitat of the wolf.
