FC Utrecht has definitively taken over Can Bozdogan from Schalke 04 on Tuesday. The German midfielder was already hired by the Domstedelingen.
The 22-year-old Bozdogan signed a contract until the summer of 2026, with an option for another year. He was rented by FC Utrecht from Schalke 04 since last summer.
This season, Bozdogan played 24 league matches for FC Utrecht and scored one goal. He was unable to play from mid-February to mid-April due to an injury.
“Last year Can has shown to be of added value and he has become an important link within the team,” says technical director Jordy Zuidam of FC Utrecht. “He has specific qualities and has already made an excellent development.”
Bozdogan has been under contract with Schalke since 2020, which was relegated from the Bundesliga last weekend. The youth international previously came out on a rental basis for Besiktas.
Earlier, FC Utrecht already strengthened itself with Souffian El Karouani, who comes over from NEC on a free transfer. The club, which is still playing in the play-offs for European football, is expected to announce the arrival of Mats Seuntjens soon.
