The man who was forcibly taken into a car in Spanbroek in North Holland on Friday was found three days later in Beverwijk without external injuries. Little is known yet, but what do we know about the mysterious abduction?
Friday 1:30 p.m.: man in socks
An unknown red-haired man stands on his socks at the shopping center and the bus stop on Herenweg in the West Frisian village of Spanbroek at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26. Several cameras capture him on image.
Friday 2.20 pm: the kidnapping
An hour later, two men drag him into a car there. According to bystanders, the kidnapping is accompanied by “so much aggression” that the man has “no chance” and cannot help but go along, the AD writes. Eyewitnesses hear him scream and see the vehicle driving away quickly, the Noordhollands Dagblad reports.
A police spokesman for the Noord-Holland Unit later informed NU.nl that the man was clearly taken under duress. And that he speaks German or English.
Around the same time as the kidnapping, a car is stolen from the parking lot on Herenweg. Whether that event is related to the kidnapping is not yet clear.
Night from Friday to Saturday: two arrests
The police distributes a first photo of the man at 0.45 am and asks “urgently” for information about his identity and whereabouts.
That same night, the police arrested two suspects 10 kilometers away in Heerhugowaard. They are in limitations. This means that they may only have contact with their lawyer. Nothing has yet been announced about their possible role in the kidnapping. According to the police, the arrest does not lead to more information.
Several homes in the Spanbroek area are also being searched. It is not known whether the searches are related to the kidnapping.

Saturday and Sunday: another photo
There is no concrete information about the kidnapping. The police are in the dark. Meanwhile, the police are concerned about his health. “The whole situation as encountered” gives cause for this.
On Sunday evening, the police spread a new photo in the hope that someone recognizes the man. He can be seen a little more clearly on it. He has a red beard, wears a white shirt with long sleeves and is standing in a bus. He was filmed by a camera on the bus.
Reactions on social media suggest that it is a bachelor party. A police spokesman called that rumor “nonsense” and a “very bad plausible scenario”. “Otherwise it would be a strange bachelor party,” says the spokesperson.
Monday morning: tips from Beverwijk
The police have been working with a large team on the case for days. “We are very busy with it, but we still haven’t spoken to him,” a police spokesman said Monday morning.
Just before 12:00, the Noord-Holland Unit reports that it has heard several times that the man would be walking around the Beverwijk railway station. Police ask eyewitnesses to call 911.
At 1:32 p.m., the police announced via Twitter that the man was found on Breestraat in the center of Beverwijk, near the station. He was found alone in the street. The man looks confused, but has no external injuries.
It concerns a man from abroad who speaks English or German. The police are not sharing more details about his identity, partly because his loved ones have not yet been informed.
He undergoes a medical examination and is then questioned by the police. He confirms to the police that he had been kidnapped.
The two suspects who were arrested in the night from Friday to Saturday will remain in custody until there is a definite answer about their role in the kidnapping.
The police are expected to announce more about the kidnapping on Tuesday.
