South Lima, one of the most populated and extensive areas of the Peruvian capital, continues to be the scene of violent events that affect the tranquility of its inhabitants. Despite the authorities’ efforts to combat crime, recent events have shown that insecurity persists in the area. On this occasion, three events stand out that have shocked the community: a massacre in Pachacámac, an assault on a chifa and the discovery of a corpse in an abandoned bag in the middle of a public thoroughfare.

The first of these tragic events occurred in Pachacámac. A gathering of four friends ended in a bloody mess when hit men broke into the house and shot to kill. The motives behind this violent act are still unknown, but what is clear is the impact it has had on the community. Residents of the area live in fear and worry, wondering if they will be safe in their own homes.

But the horror is not limited to the confines of homes. Commercial establishments are also targets of rampant crime. On this occasion, a chifa located on Micaela Bastidas avenue in Villa el Salvador was the object of a violent armed robbery.

The security cameras of the premises recorded the terror that was experienced in the place when a criminal broke in and violently reduced the son and wife of the owner, who – upon hearing the screams – decides to defend his family by shooting at the criminal, who fell down. .

In addition to these acts of direct violence, the body of a man abandoned in a bag has been discovered in the middle of a public thoroughfare in the agricultural area of Villa El Salvador. Passers-by were horrified to discover the scene and immediately alerted the authorities. The body, which was handcuffed and showed signs of torture, has not yet been identified, and it is hoped that the investigation will shed light on the circumstances of this crime.
These recent events are just a few examples of criminal violence affecting the districts of Lima Sur. The inhabitants live in constant fear, worried about their integrity and that of their loved ones. Despite the efforts of the police and local authorities, crime seems to be one step ahead, perpetrating violent acts that undermine the peace and tranquility of the community.
The feeling of insecurity is very latent among the population. According to a study by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), close to half of the inhabitants of Metropolitan Lima felt unsafe in their neighborhoods and 90% of the population over 15 years of age believed that they could be the victim of a criminal act.
In addition, for 73% of the population, the issue of citizen insecurity was the main problem that affected their quality of life. Lima Centro presented the greatest dissatisfaction, with 79%. They continued Lima North (78%), Callao (72%), Lima East (69%) and Lima South (63%).
The increase in violence in robberies is also worrying. According to INEI data, between 2012 and 2021 there was a 34% increase in the use of pistols or revolvers in assaults throughout Lima.

To this is added that robberies in homes and businesses increased by 82% during 2022. Of this total, 75% were carried out in businesses, while in homes it was 25%.

According to National Police statistics, 11,237 robberies were reported in Metropolitan Lima during the first three months of the year, a figure that doubles what happened two years ago with 5,885 cases.
Regarding the daily report, in 2021 the figure of 66 cases of robbery per day was reached, which climbed to 107 cases in 2022. However, according to the National Police, this year the cases increased to 125 episodes diaries.
