In The Hague, black screens were placed on Friday evening along part of the A12, at the Prins Clauslaan. Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) want to block the road there on Saturday afternoon, in protest against what they believe is the government’s lax attitude towards the fossil industry.
The screens were put up because, according to the municipality of The Hague, objects were indicated from that location at previous similar demonstrations to activists who blocked the road below in the tunnel. Food items were also thrown down. The screens are intended to prevent such actions, Omroep West reports.
The screens were also installed in March of this year, at another demonstration of XR. This was done on the basis of experiences with previous demonstrations and protest actions, the municipality of The Hague reported at the time.
