Customs cocaine intercepted between cargo of bananas

Customs intercepted 708 kilos of cocaine between a shipment of bananas in the port of Vlissingen. It is the second time in a short time that customs intercepted such an amount of drugs. At the end of April, customs intercepted 655 kilos of cocaine, also between a shipment of bananas.
The batch of drugs, with a street value of more than 53 million euros, has since been destroyed. It has been restless in the port of Vlissingen in recent days. The police had their hands full with suspected thieves in the port.
Smugglers are, often young, people who are commissioned to extract hard drugs such as cocaine from containers that have been smuggled to the Netherlands. They are mainly found in the port of Rotterdam, but last week also a few nights in a row in the port area of Vlissingen.

Customs regularly intercepts consignments of drugs. At the beginning of this year, for example, more than 4,700 kilos of cocaine from Chile and Ecuador, among others, was intercepted in the port of Rotterdam. Those drugs were also partly hidden between a load of bananas.
The amount of drugs found in the port of Rotterdam did decrease last year compared to the year before. It increased in the port of Antwerp.
