Argentina Elections 2023: why San Juan does not vote for Governor and Tucumán will not have elections
In Tucumán the elections were suspended while in San Juan only mayors and legislators will vote
Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Justice resolved this Tuesday to suspend the elections next Sunday in the provinces of Tucumán and San Juan, where the provincial leaders were running for re-election.
In Tucumán, the conflict revolved around the candidacy of former Chief of Staff Juan Manzur, who is running for lieutenant governor after serving as governor of Tucumán for two consecutive terms. While in San Juan, the opposition questions Sergio Uñac, who intends to be governor again after having held that position for two consecutive terms. Before he had been lieutenant governor of the province.
After the Supreme Court of Justice issued a ruling to suspend the elections for governor and lieutenant governor in that district that were to be held this Sunday, the Tucumán Electoral Board decided to cancel the election in the province in all categories.
On the side of San Juan, the position was different, since although they will not choose the categories of governor and lieutenant governor this Sunday. Yes, it was decided that it be done for 17 proportional deputies, 19 departmental deputies and 19 departmental mayors with their respective councilors.
One detail to keep in mind is that the ballots that San Juan residents will find in the dark rooms will be the same ones that are already printed, and that have the governor and vice figures. However, only the votes for mayors, councilors and deputies in all departments will be counted.
