Inez Weski’s lawyers say they cannot comment on the allegations against their client. Weski says that she is bound by her duty of confidentiality towards Ridouan Taghi. She has no intention of breaking it, “not even in court.”
“The defense is therefore bound hand and foot and cannot comment on the content of the allegations,” said Rob Baumgardt and Fébe Schoolderman.
On Friday it was announced that the restrictions in which Weski was sitting have been lifted. Still, her lawyers say they can’t comment. “Not in the courtroom and not outside of it,” Baumgardt and Schoolderman said in a press release.
This raises the question of what defense Weski’s defense can put forward in court.
The lawyers said they would not comment further and would therefore not respond to requests from the media to respond to the allegations.
The lawyers do call on the media to exercise restraint. “Especially with regard to the content of the allegations and the conclusions drawn by the OM.”
Taghi is looking for a lawyer and defends himself in the meantime
On Friday it was also announced that Ridouan Taghi will conduct his own defense in the Marengo trial for the time being. He is still looking for one or more lawyers. But because Weski has dropped his defense, he will be forced to take on his own defense until he finds that lawyer.
The Marengo trial will resume on Monday. It is the first day of court after Weski’s arrest. The 68-year-old woman is suspected of sharing secret information from the extra-secure facility (ebi) in Vught with the outside world.
