One year after the murder of the Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, while he was enjoying his honeymoon on the beaches of Barú in Cartagena, the widow, Claudia Aguilera, reappeared in public as part of a tribute paid to the public official at the airport Silvio Pettirossi International from the city of Luque, in Paraguay.

Claudia, a journalist by profession and who had their son in October 2022, began her speech by explaining her withdrawal from public life, in order to focus on mourning in private:
“Today I speak publicly again, after the interview with a Colombian media outlet, when, in a panic, I had to confirm that my husband was killed on the honeymoon. It is important that they know that in some cases mourning requires intimacy, quite the contrary to what motivates joy and happiness “
It was then that she directly referred to her deceased husband as someone who gave his life for justice and always watched over his family:
“I want to remember the man who gave me the miracle of his love, who made me a wife and mother, and whom God allowed me to love. I want to exalt that good Paraguayan, that active citizen and committed not only to the laws, but also to his principles and values. Committed to the history of the country and to being happy. He is serious, but noble, with a firm personality, but sensitive ”
In the speech, he did not miss the opportunity to talk about his son, Marcelo Daniel Pecci, who could not meet his father:
“The most beautiful thing about Marcelo Pecci is that he didn’t praise himself with the influence he exerted on others or through his work and that made him much greater. He was humble. I love remembering it this way, that they remember it that way and that my son Marcelito, later on, considers these memories as a treasure”
During the ceremony, a Convair 240 plane belonging to Paraguayan Airlines was presented in honor of the murdered prosecutor. Hence, Claudia made reference to the dreams that Marcelo Pecci had, who was an aviation fan:
“A year ago, when we enjoyed the waters of the Caribbean Sea, Marcelo told me that when he returned to Paraguay he was going to insist on the Convair 240 project… He loved to travel and at some point he wanted to be president of the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, but He put that desire aside to prioritize us as a family.”
Claudia Aguilera raised her clamor for the truth and justice behind the crime, for which the brothers Emilio and Andrés Felipe Pérez Hoyos were recently convicted, who confessed to being the “masterminds” of the operation and received a 25-year prison sentence under the charges of aggravated homicide, trafficking and possession of weapons:
“A year ago we lost a useful man for society, a great father of a family and a loving husband. That is why today, when I have to demand the truth about his murder and harsh sentences for his hitmen, I also ask for a real fight against drug trafficking and organized crime. However, I am not satisfied, because Marcelo Pecci deserves greater justice “
Immediately, she clarified what she understands as “greater justice” for her husband:
“My family was amputated because my husband, my son’s father, did his job well. I don’t want this to be a discouragement, but a real commitment. For this reason, I direct my cry to the Colombian authorities, to the Paraguayan Prosecutor’s Office, to the governments, to the politicians and to the entire society. I long for my husband’s life not only to leave a message in the judicial field. Justice for Marcelo Pecci will be to make him a daily inspiration.”
Finally, Claudia sent a message of firmness and strength to remain committed to this fight against corruption and organized crime:
“Marcelo’s life and his death require us to be firm and strong, not to give in to the evils that touch our backs in this corrupt society. That is why here today, under this sky and this hangar where Marcelo overflowed with passion, I ask to make a commitment in his name and also in the name of our beloved son Marcelito.”
