Last week’s floods in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo killed 401 people. That reports the governor of the area.
It was already reported last Friday that at least 176 people had died and many were still missing. The government has declared today a day of national mourning.
Torrential downpours that began Thursday evening caused two rivers to overflow their banks and cause landslides. Many homes were destroyed and roads blocked. The villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi in the South Kivu region were flooded.
