Explosion at home in Capelle aan den IJssel

There was an explosion at a house in Capelle aan den IJssel last night just before 1:30 am. No one was injured, but there is damage to the home.

A spokeswoman for the police said that no one was present in the house on Ericastraat at the time of the explosion. She cannot say the extent of the damage. The police have launched an investigation into the incident. A spokesperson cannot yet say whether there is a connection with previous explosions.

This year there have already been more than fifty explosions at homes in the Rotterdam region. That is more than all of last year. The municipality of Rotterdam and the police have increased security in places where explosions have occurred recently. This is done, among other things, by camera surveillance.

More than 30 people have already been arrested this year in connection with the explosions. The incidents are linked to narcotics trafficking and other criminal activities. Last week, the municipality of Rotterdam announced that it will carry out preventive searches in neighborhoods with many explosions.
