A truck collided and demolished a pedestrian bridge on Route 8, at the height of Pilar

A motorist was injured this morning in Pilar, after a large truck that was traveling on Route 8, near the Pilar district, collided and demolished a pedestrian bridge.

The accident occurred at kilometer 60, right at the exit of Cuba street that leads to the Pilar Industrial Park, located in the town of Fátima.

According to the first reports, the driver of a Mercedes Benz brand truck with the punt raised did not correctly calculate the height of the bridge and when trying to go under it he rammed it. Due to the collapse, a motorist was injured.

Since 8 o’clock, traffic remained cut off in both directions, despite the fact that the accident occurred on the road that goes to General Paz.

Road Runners personnel diverted motorists through the collectors. One of the operatives was stationed at km 60, for those who were heading to the Province; and at km 64, for those going to the City of Buenos Aires.

In January of this year there was a similar accident, but with a fatal outcome. On that occasion, two people died and another was injured after crashing the car in which they were traveling against the column of a pedestrian bridge located on Route 2, near the Buenos Aires town of El Pato, Berazategui district.

The accident had occurred on January 30, around 6:30 a.m., in a section of the connection between the Gutiérrez branch of the Buenos Aires-La Plata highway, in front of the CIR 2 Industrial Park.

A Peugeot 307 was circulating there in which an adult couple was traveling in the front and a 19-year-old young man behind. They circulated in the direction of the City of Buenos Aires.

For reasons that are still trying to establish, the motorist lost control of the vehicle, veered off onto the right shoulder, crossed the retaining fence and hit the bridge.

As a result of the brutal crash, the adults died instantly and the vehicle was practically destroyed. The young man could be rescued by police and fire brigade personnel. He was transferred in a SAME ambulance to the Evita Pueblo de Berazategui hospital.
