Botic van de Zandschulp will collaborate with Sven Groeneveld from the Masters tournament in Rome. The best tennis player in the Netherlands hopes to take a new step towards the world top with the success coach.
With Groeneveld, Van de Zandschulp has found a permanent coach again after two months. The Dutchman broke with Peter Lucassen at the end of February because he wanted to take a new path. Since then, Van de Zandschulp has been temporarily assisted by coaches Dennis Sporrel and Paul Haarhuis.
Groeneveld is an established name in the tennis world. After his own career he became a successful coach. The Haarlemmer has worked with numerous major players, including Bianca Andreescu, Maria Sharapova, Mary Pierce and Michael Stich.
“It feels like an honor that Botic personally called me to ask if I wanted to guide him in this phase of his career,” says 57-year-old Groeneveld about the collaboration with the number 29 in the world.
Van de Zandschulp is still waiting for his first ATP singles title. Two weeks ago in Munich he was close to his first overall victory at the highest level, but despite four match points, he failed to beat the Dane Holger Rune in the final.
Groeneveld and Van de Zandschulp team up for the first time at the Masters tournament in Rome (8-21 May). Last year he stranded in the Italian capital in the second round. Then he lost to Casper Ruud, the current number four in the world.
