Leaders of the Evita Movement seek to maintain a balance with the candidates of the Frente de Todos
“Now, with everyone”, that seems to be the slogan of the Evita Movement, the largest social organization that makes up the Frente de Todos and whose main leaders are officials of the government of Alberto Fernández. In the absence of their own presidential candidate, the organization led by Emilio Pérsico and Fernando “Chino” Navarro, do their best to maintain a fine balance with the aforementioned candidates: Interior Minister Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro; the Argentine ambassador in Brazil, Daniel Scioli and the Minister of Economy Sergio Massa. The leader of the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE) Juan Grabois was the first to sign up on the list, but he announced that he will lower his candidacy in the event of De Pedro or Governor Axel Kicillof presenting himself. The Buenos Aires president announced that he will seek his re-election, however there is a sector of Kirchnerism that promotes him. For his part, he urges that the candidate be Vice President Cristina Fernández.
The Evita Movement gave the necessary signs to make it clear that “they are with everyone” while seeking internal consensus in the Frente de Todos. Pérsico himself told Infobae that he does not believe in reaching a STEP for the presidential category. He did it the day he launched with Daniel Menéndez, national coordinator of Somos Libres de Pie, the political party La Patria de los Comunes.
The Secretary of the Popular Economy understands that a disorderly inmate can end up benefiting the opposition. Pérsico and Navarro are working to get the Frente de Todo to agree on the name of a single candidate. They affirm that if this is the case, the Homeland of the Commons will support the man or woman of consensus.
On May 1st, the majority of the pro-government popular organizations, enrolled in the Unión Trabajadores de la Economía Popular (UTEP), held a rally on Avenida de Mayo and 9 de Julio to demonstrate against the agreement signed by the Government with the Fund International Monetary.

Despite this, on April 26, Pérsico, Navarro, and Menéndez met with Massa and the fat men of the CGT with the purpose of showing “certainty” abroad in the midst of the escalation of the dollar, and supporting the proposal of the head of the Palace. of the Treasury of a price and wage agreement for 90 days. Even earlier, Pérsico received deputy Máximo Kirchner, leader of La Cámpora, at his home from Isidro Casanova to iron out differences, especially in the Buenos Aires suburbs, where the two forces compete.
The building of bridges is such that Evita sent a delegation to the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, to attend the “master class” given by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. And to avoid confronting the Government, the main leaders of the Evita Movement discourage holding a massive rally together with the Piquetera Unit in front of the Ministry of Economy, as they had announced with a photo and everything, to protest against the IMF and the adjustment plan in social programs.
—Does the Evita Movement continue to promote a great march against the International Monetary Fund together with the Piquetera Unit and the leftist parties? Infobae asked one of the leaders of that organization who usually meets with Alberto Fernández when he summons them to the Casa Rosada or the Quinta de Olivos.
-No. The electoral conditions. In addition, Chiquito (by Eduardo Belliboni) leader of the Polo Obrero, and the other leaders, go against the Government. We do not. We, the entire UTEP, make ourselves available to Alberto and Massa so that they use us and if they ask for it, we go out to support the IMF to stop squeezing the government, he replied.
Juan Grabois launched the presidential candidacy, Emilio Pérsico seeks unity within the Frente de Todos
“We have to prepare and organize ourselves, beyond our differences and nuances, to prevent any government that comes from wanting to make the adjustment,” said Esteban “Gringo” Castro, general secretary of UTEP and leader of Evita, in one of the assemblies preparatory neighborhoods for the Labor Day march.
In dialogue with this outlet, the leader of the Francisco Misioneros Movement threatened: “If we have to sleep on the street, if we have to live on the street, we do it, but we are not going to allow anyone to adjust. We tell Alberto, we are here to fight against the Fund”.
Deflating that march is a huge gesture by Evita and Somos Barrios de Pie in search of that unity and care towards the figure of the President. Fernando Navarro, Secretary of Relations with Civil Society and Community Development of the Chief of Staff is one of the main references of Evita. He weaves the compromises between the different spaces of the Frente de Todos with the social movements.

“We have to rebuild, talk, agree, I trust that we have destiny. I trust the Argentine people,” said Navarro amid the intentional rumors that suspiciously hinted that Cristina Fernández or Axel Kicillof could decide to be candidates for the first magistracy.
“We need a candidate as soon as possible to start ordering everything,” Pérsico interpreted when consulted by this means. And without turning around he added: “Within the Front of All there will be unity. No one came out to shout ‘I’m a candidate!’ the opposition is a chicken coop and that benefits us. Not everything is lost”.
Of the names in dance, Evita feels more comfortable with the two-time governor of Buenos Aires. They had already supported him in 2015. Scioli and Pérsico agreed that if elected President, the motorboat would create the Ministry of Social, or Popular Economy. The project was truncated, Mauricio Macri defeated him in the second electoral round.
In 2019, Alberto Fernández promised the same and did not comply.
Just as Evita supports that there is no STEP to choose the candidate for President, he promotes them for the governorships and mayorship. With La Patria de los Comunes they intend to dispute political space with the main “Barones del Conurbano” whether they are pro-government or opposition, such as Fernando Espinoza, in La Matanza or Diego Valenzuela in Tres de Febrero.
That said, the debate within the Evita Movement is in full swing. They meet once or twice a week to discuss the best options and who might be the best candidate for the Frente de Todos. For now, they will not be played by any, the scenario changes daily. More than enough reason not to bet openly on any of the names in dance. For now, they see a daunting horizon. There are those who interpret that none have chances of victory. Some leaders of the Evita Movement -they are a minority- believe that the most competitive thing would be to set up an inmate in the Frente de Todos to legitimize the winner. However, opinions are not unanimous. So far, the consensus candidate prevails. But it is known, politics is the art of the possible.
