Queen Charlotte, whom we know from Bridgerton (2020– ), is getting her own series today with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023– ). The brand new prequel series, about the rise of the Queen, is now available on Netflix.
Young Queen Charlotte
The series introduces a young Charlotte (India Amarteifio), who is only just beginning to understand her power – and the meaning of love. We meet young Charlotte as she enters her life-changing marriage to young King George (Corey Mylchreest) and enters a barrel very different from Bridgerton. Of course, a fearless leader like Charlotte is spearheading a societal shift that will spark generations of change in Bridgerton’s world.
New and familiar faces
Amarteifio leads the cast as Queen Charlotte as a younger version of the Royal Highness. Mylchreest and Arsema Thomas are cast as young King George and young Lady Agatha Danbury. Michelle Fairley, Sam Clemmett, Freddie Dennis, Richard Cunningham, Tunji Kasim, Cyril Nri and Rob Maloney also appear in the prequel series.
Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh and Ruth Gemmell also appear in Queen Charlotte as their Bridgerton characters: Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury and Bridgerton family matriarch Lady Violet Bridgerton. Netflix emphasizes to new viewers that you don’t have to have seen Bridgerton to follow Queen Charlotte, but of course it is more fun to recognize familiar characters.
