Dirk Kuijt will join the coaching staff of Arne Slot at Feyenoord in the coming period, who was preferred to the former international almost two years ago as head coach. It is unknown how long Kuijt will remain involved in selection.
Kuijt returns to Feyenoord with the internship period, where he left since the arrival of Slot. The 104-time international hoped to become head coach at the club for a long time, but after Slot’s appointment he no longer wanted to sit in the waiting room.
42-year-old Kuijt returns to Feyenoord in the week that the club may be able to win its first national title since 2017. Six years ago, the born Katwijker was still the champion of the team from Rotterdam with a hat trick in the championship match against Heracles Almelo.
While Kuijt witnesses Slot’s working method up close, he in turn may be able to convey his experiences from 2017. Feyenoord can become champion on Sunday, provided that PSV loses points against Sparta Rotterdam the day before. Feyenoord will play at Excelsior on Sunday at 2.30 pm.
Kuyt’s first job ended in a fiasco
Kuijt is currently without a club after his resignation from ADO Den Haag, where he started a year after his departure from Feyenoord. His first job as head coach ended in a fiasco: the former captain of Feyenoord was fired after six months in the court city.
