May 1 (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury Department issued a license on Monday authorizing the opposition Venezuelan National Assembly to carry out the necessary steps for debt settlement agreements with the government or state oil company PDVSA, according to a document disclosed on its website.
The license also authorizes individuals or entities designated by the opposition parliament to lead debt negotiations.
The United States ignores and classifies as a fraud the re-election of President Nicolás Maduro in 2018, while it recognizes as legitimate the opposition parliament, which since the beginning of this year has functioned with a delegated commission of some thirty members.
