Dutch-Brazilian para-athlete Lito King Anker has broken the world record for ‘longest wheelie in a wheelchair’ in time and distance.
The 26-year-old wheelchair tennis player started yesterday at noon on an athletics track in Arnhem to ride on the back wheels of his wheelchair as long and as far as possible. At around 10 p.m., he stopped the record attempt. The Arnhemmer had then covered a distance of more than 30 kilometers.
That is a lot longer than the previous wheelie record set by a Chinese. He covered a distance of more than 25 kilometers in 4 hours and 50 minutes.
Anker is an ambassador for Uniek Sporten, an organization that helps disabled people find a sports provider in their area. Anker wants to draw attention to parasport with this record attempt.
In 2016, he competed in the Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. He placed fifth in the men’s doubles.
