The Swedish government announced on Tuesday the expulsion of five Russian diplomats from its embassy in Stockholm for carrying out activities “not compatible” with their status.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called the Russian ambassador, Victor Tatarintsev, today to inform him that five people employed in his embassy must leave the country because their activities are not compatible with the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations,” it is stated in a brief release.
The last time Sweden had expelled Russian diplomats was in April 2022, in response to the military intervention in Ukraine.
The measure comes two weeks after Norway announced the expulsion of fifteen staff members from the Russian embassy in Oslo, whom it accused of carrying out espionage work taking advantage of their diplomatic status.
