The National Seismological Service (SSN) reported that until 01:00 in the morning there have been 657 aftershocks of the 5.5 magnitude tremor that occurred on April 3 in Oaxaca. The largest of them was magnitude 4.1.
According to the organization that is part of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), when a high-magnitude earthquake occurs, the rocks located in the area are subject to rearrangement, which is why in that process it generates earthquakes known as aftershocks. which are of lesser magnitude and can occur minutes, days and even years after the main one.
