Rome, 20 apr. The derailment of several wagons of a freight train at the Florence Castello station (central Italy), without causing any injuries, is causing significant problems in rail traffic on connections between the center and north of the country.
“Railway circulation is interrupted both on the high-speed line and on the traditional line due to the derailment of some carriages of a freight train at the Florence Castello station. The infrastructure has suffered significant damage,” the Railway Network explained in a note. Italian (RFI).
For the moment, “the high-speed services of the Milan-Rome and Venice-Rome lines and the Florence-Prato-Viareggio regional line are affected by the interruption, as well as some connections to Florence and south to Bologna”, they added.
Several hours of interruption of rail traffic are expected in this area, which is causing total and partial cancellations of trips throughout the country.
RFI has not yet communicated the reasons for the derailment of the freight train. EFE
