Approximately 4600 addresses around Schiphol in the municipalities of Uithoorn, Haarlemmermeer, Aalsmeer and Amstelveen can claim compensation for noise nuisance. This has been announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
It concerns local residents who lived near an enforcement point between November 2017 and October 2019 whose noise limit value was exceeded. These enforcement points are used to check whether the noise standards are being exceeded. However, because in recent years flights have already been carried out according to new rules that have not yet been laid down, there was no enforcement if the limit values were exceeded.
In 2020, nine local residents indicated that they had suffered damage as a result. They submitted a request for compensation. An independent committee subsequently ruled that this way of enforcement had indeed damaged their quality of life and that they were entitled to compensation.
Between 50 and 2200 euros
The ministry has adopted the committee’s advice and has had it investigated how many other local residents had similar circumstances. That turns out to be those 4600 addresses. They will receive a letter at home next week with information about the application procedure for compensation. They can then submit such an application between 1 May and 31 July.
The amount of the compensation depends on whether the noise standards are exceeded and the WOZ value of the address. The majority of the amounts will fall between 50 euros and 2,200 euros, according to the ministry.
