“Our children, our teenagers are in danger. This is the “cry of alarm” launched by a group of intellectuals and doctors in a column published on April 16 in Le Point, a virulent indictment against the “scientific absurdities” that would be relayed, according to the hundred signatories, the Family planning at the risk of “intoxicating” the youth.
In question ? The “trans lexicon” published on the movement’s website in the section devoted to “gender identities” or “marginalized orientations” united under the acronym LGBTQIA + for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, intersex, asexual, the “+ indicating that the list is not exhaustive.
A total negation of science
“This lexicon is a total negation of science and biology and claims to impose new norms and a new vocabulary to supposedly educate our children in the name of transactivist ideology”, accuses child psychiatrist Caroline Eliacheff, founder of the The Little Mermaid Observatory, at the initiative of this forum co-signed, among others, by the philosopher Élisabeth Badinter, Professor Israel Nisand and the former Minister of Health Jean-François Mattei, among the most famous personalities.
As proof, the text of the collective offers a “small anthology” of the definitions proposed by this lexicon established, according to Family Planning, “to welcome all people as respectfully as possible”.
Psychological abuse of youth
The entry “assignment at birth” thus specifies that it is “the doctors who decide whether the individual is a boy or a girl according to standards of penis/clitoris length”, while the term “sex” is presented, further, as a “social construct”. The lexicon also recommends a list of “terms not to be used”, starting with “male/female” on the grounds that these would be “binary terms that do not reflect the variety of our bodies and our experiences” or the “masculine/feminine” adjectives that refer to “gender stereotypes”.
Although not a signatory of the forum, Pascale Morinière, president of the Catholic Family Associations, is also worried about the “scientific shipwreck” of Family Planning and the untruths that the association asserts during its interventions in schools. “This transactivist ideology which affirms the insignificance of sexual bodies is a real psychic abuse of youth, at an age when we need structuring benchmarks more than ever,” she denounces.
This is not the first time that Family Planning has been the subject of such questioning. In January 2022, the same Caroline Eliacheff published a column in Marianne pointing out the “drifts” and “fables” of the association. And already demanded from the public authorities – State and communities – a conditioning of the subsidies paid to it for the “immediate withdrawal” of this trans lexicon.
“Our request having not been acted upon, we are publishing this second forum. Waiting for a third, if necessary, until we manage to move the lines to protect the children, ”she promises.
Far-right attacks
Similarly, in August 2022, the poster campaign launched by the movement and featuring a couple of men under the title “In Planning, we know that men can also be pregnant” had provoked strong reactions on the networks. social groups, in particular personalities from the Rassemblement national and Reconquête!, Éric Zemmour’s party.
Hence the anger of Sarah Durocher, president of Family Planning, in the face of this new platform which she considers “very violent, with transphobic remarks and totally unfair” and which she fears will serve, first of all, to relaunch regular attacks from the extreme right.
“For more than fifty years, we have been in the field to educate people in the emancipation, defend their rights, fight against all inequalities, violence and discrimination and, even today, we are at the service of more than 700,000 people across France, including nearly 150,000 young people, she argues. Open the debate on gender and feminism? Why not ? But that we can claim to remove subsidies while we prove our social utility every day must be denounced as a pure political operation. »
