End of tenancy protection?
Concerns about two proposals from VVD and CDA that would affect rent protection in the private rental market. Private landlords who do not own more than one home and who want to sell, are allowed to terminate the rent of existing tenants in the proposals. Without the tenant being entitled to replacement housing, or the court weighing up the interests. Selling is not yet a reason to terminate a lease. The House of Representatives will vote on the proposals today.
Dominion’s lawsuit against Fox News
The lawsuit starts today over whether Fox News ran a smear campaign against voting computer manufacturer Dominion. The manufacturer is demanding $1.5 billion because Fox News kept repeating that the 2020 presidential election – in which Joe Biden won – was fraudulent and that the voting computers of the company Dominion Voting Systems were part of a conspiracy. Dominion says Fox News knew they were spreading untruths.
‘The Lost Transport’
In the aftermath of the Second World War, on April 10, 1945, a transport departs from Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. It is later called a ghost train: the train never arrives at its destination – the camp Theresienstadt. Some 2,500 prisoners, including a large number of Dutch Jews, were on the train. They are called ‘exchange Jews’. Their living conditions are slightly better, with the aim of exchanging them for Germans. Ultimately, that does not happen, because the ghost train strands in the middle of East Germany. Inspired by this historic event, there is now the film ‘The Lost Transport’.
