According to what the Council of Cúcuta denounces, in the last three years there have been withholdings of about 52,689 subsidies for the people of Cucuta. From that entity, then, the start of an investigation is being demanded to clarify what is behind it. The subsidies, according to the accusation, are those corresponding to the Youth in Action and Families in Action programs. This, says the Council, without counting the Older Adult program.

According to testimonies compiled by Blu Radio, it is a “very alarming situation” that would be the result of the “negligence or incompetence of officials.”
This complaint is not the only one that has arisen in regards to issues of resources and investment in that city. The entity recently questioned the investment of security resources in Cúcuta. “Risory that, in the budget of this city, in the incorporation of 135 billion, only 2,700 million go to security. Where is the intelligence plan? Where is everything that has to do with panic buttons, cameras? There are 100 cameras for a city of more than 800,000 inhabitants,” councilor Álvaro Raad commented, in the midst of the debate on political control of the Secretary of Citizen Security.

“11 billion pesos are being asked to incorporate the work on Avenida Las Américas, which has been a total failure, which has not had even 30% progress, and only 2,700 million for security, when it is the main problem that afflicts the Cucuteño,” he added.
In the midst of political controls, before the Council, in addition, Olga Patricia Omaña, Secretary of Municipal Culture and Tourism, denounced that the entity did not have its own resources. Councilor Jesús Sepúlveda stressed that this was a consequence of the little importance that had been given to him from the mayor’s office. “I see with sadness that in this administration, in its management, adding the resources of this year’s budget, it has invested so little in culture,” said councilor Edward Varón.

At the beginning of last year, a priest also denounced acts of corruption in compensation funds in Cúcuta. “The compensation funds belong to the people, but politicians have taken over them. They not only manipulate them, but also force their employees to do what they want (…). They do what they say and never for the progress of the community, but to sustain themselves in their position”, said priest Humberto Nieto, belonging to the Diocese of Cúcuta, in the middle of a Eucharist celebrated in the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Located in the La Playa neighborhood.

“At this time the employees have to sell very expensive tickets, I think they are 500 thousand pesos each ticket, to pay the candidate for the campaign (…) and apart from selling the tickets, they have to go to the neighborhoods to get them the votes (…) There is no need to make bad propaganda for them, let’s just not vote for them. (…) Corruption will one day have to end in Colombia”, he added.
The capital of Norte de Santander is presenting serious problems in its penitentiary system, as denounced by the ombudsman of Cúcuta, Karol Blanco, who defined as a time bomb the series of complications that exist around prisons and the great problems that can trigger.
“There are various problems that the Cúcuta prison faces that leave us concerned, it seems that there was no control by the authorities and there the criminal gangs do whatever they want,” he mentioned, highlighting that the large number of detainees, together with the scarcity of resources complicate the attention of the medical, food service, among others, giving the possibility of real humanitarian problems within the campus, ”he said in RCN News.
