The mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, referred to the sentence of Daniel Urresti and said that he sympathizes with the relatives of the man sentenced today to 12 years in prison. The burgomaster did not rule out visiting him in prison and said he expected his early release.

To jail Ancón II
The head of the INPE, Federico Javier Llaque Moya, explained that Daniel Urresti will be transferred to the Ancón II prison jail where a specialized board will decide what sentence he will go to to serve his sentence.
“In that jail, a board of classifiers made up of a psychologist, a social worker and a lawyer will independently classify him to the prison and the corresponding regime,” Llaque Moya said in statements to the newspaper La República.

The Ombudsman’s Office issued a statement stating that “the sentence establishing criminal responsibility of Mr. Daniel Urresti for the murder of journalist Hugo Bustíos marks a significant milestone in the fight against impunity for serious violations of Human Rights.”
