Islamabad, 13 Apr. The Government of Pakistan guaranteed this Thursday the Swedish ambassador in the Asian country, Henrik Persson, the security of the Asian country in its diplomatic missions after the recent closure of the Swedish embassy in Islamabad.
Pakistani Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan met Persson today to stress that “the security situation in Islamabad was normal” after the Swedish embassy closed its activities in Pakistan, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. from the Asian country.
For his part, the Swedish ambassador responded that this closure “was a temporary measure due to an unforeseen event that would soon be remedied,” said Foreign Affairs.
The temporary suspension of Swedish consular services particularly affects Pakistani students who wish to continue their academic training in the Scandinavian country.
Although Persson “made it clear that the Embassy was not fully closed, he noted that Pakistani students wishing to apply for student visas were being directed to the Swedish Migration Agency,” the letter said.
The Pakistani embassy in Sweden said on Tuesday that many Pakistani students have recently applied to Swedish universities for the upcoming academic year and are asking about the status of their visas.
“We hope they will be able to apply for the visa soon. Education is an important aspect of our relationship” and the students “bring the two countries together,” the Pakistani embassy wrote on Twitter.
The Swedish ambassador, for his part, responded that he will try to resolve this problem “quickly and amicably,” the statement said.
The Pakistani diaspora living in Sweden could also face problems when traveling to Pakistan to visit relatives with the suspension of embassy services.
“Definitely, the closure will have implications for trade, education, cultural exchanges and would also have an impact on the country’s image regarding its current security,” a diplomatic source from the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs told EFE on condition of anonymity. . EFE
