Speaking to the press upon his arrival at the station in the Ukrainian capital, Habeck stressed that it is the first time that Germany has come with a business delegation to Ukraine and added that “it is probably the first time at the European level.”
“With this it is already clear in fact that the purpose of this trip is for Ukraine to receive a clear signal that we believe that it will win, that it will be rebuilt, that there is an interest on the part of Europe not only in helping in times of misfortune, but also in make Ukraine a strong economic partner in the future,” he said.
This is Habeck’s first trip to Ukraine as a minister since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 last year, after a visit planned for last fall had to be postponed due to the Russian winter offensive. , he specified, according to the media.
His previous visit to Ukraine was in May 2021 as chairman of the German Greens.
For his part, the president of the Confederation of German Industry (BDI), Siegfried Russwurm, who is accompanying Habeck, described the trip as a “signal to Ukrainians that German business is also on their side.”
