1957. He is operated on for pleurisy, undergoing the removal of a lobe of one of his lungs.
July 2021. The pope, suffering from “symptomatic diverticular stenosis of the colon”, was operated on at the Gemelli hospital, where he spent ten days. He later confided to relatives that he had suffered “memory loss” when he woke up from general anesthesia.
May 2022. Knee pain forces him to use a wheelchair. In particular, he underwent infiltrations and physiotherapy sessions. These pains are added to those, felt in the hip, which make him limp.
